An Introduction to stream mitigation and developing a mitigation currency for Colorado

While many of us work to adjust to a temporary new normal, AWRA Colorado continues to work to bring current, relevant educational opportunities to our water resources community.  Please join us on Tuesday for another webinar-only lunch talk!

This month’s AWRA Lunch talk will feature a raffle drawing to benefit AWRA Colorado’s Richard Herbert Memorial Scholarship.  The winner of the raffle drawing will receive a Yeti mug courtesy of West Sage Water Consultants.

To enter the raffle, just make a $5+ donation to the AWRA Colorado Scholarship Fund by April 28th at 12:10 pm. The winner of the raffle will be announced at the end of the April lunch talk (do not need to be present to win).

Presentation Abstract:

This talk will introduce viewers to stream mitigation approaches across the country with a focus on the currency of these transactions – debits and credits. The talk will also include background on Colorado's new approach to stream mitigation.

Speaker: Julia McCarthy

Julia is an Environmental Scientist with USEPA Region 8. She has worked in the Clean Water Act Section 404 regulatory program for the past 12 years. Her work currently includes Waters of the U.S. policy, 404 program implementation in Utah and Wyoming, and stream mitigation policy and tool development in Colorado and Wyoming. Julia has a MS in Ecology from Colorado State University, and a BS in Biology and a Certificate in Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

About the scholarship fund:

The AWRA-Colorado Section has awarded 103 scholarships since 1991 totaling over $194,000 to college students in Colorado who pursue research in water resources. The scholarship fund is supported by member donations and, in most years, by the proceeds of the Section’s Annual Symposium. This year we are looking at creative ways to raise money for scholarships, so please donate what you can, perhaps you will win the raffle prize for this month’s webinar!
