I’ve worked in the water industry for 4 years. My interest first sparked when a presenter came in to discuss how wastewater treatment plants operate in a high school environmental science class. I was immediately drawn to the value and meaning of a career in water. I also had the opportunity to participate in internships with a water utility, the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and a consulting firm which helped me focus my career interests in college.
What is one thing you wish you knew prior to starting your career?
Collaboration can be just as productive, if not more productive than competition. It took a while for me to view my career and life as a team sport.
What are some upcoming trends or challenges you see with Colorado water?
Flexibility in water operations and multiple sources of water supply are ways in which we can mitigate water supply risks under future conditions. As the flexibility in operations and water sources becomes necessary to meet demands, I see challenges in transitioning flexibility shown in computer models and water right decrees to ground operations.
What value or benefit does being a Colorado AWRA member bring you?
AWRA offers the opportunity to both teach and learn. With student events that can bring new faces and ideas to the water industry and lunch talks from leading water professionals, there is a great blend of opportunities to receive and give back to the water community.
